This position functions in a collaborative practice with physician(s) in the Metabolic Genetics Clinic and under the direction of the Genetics Clinical Coordinator. Will provide ambulatory nursing care as directed by the physician(s); genetic counseling support and may act as the primary case manager to patients referred to or seen in the Metabolic Genetics Clinic. Responsible for assisting physicians in ordering tests and monitoring all laboratory results, providing letters of summary to patients and their families regarding counseling sessions and laboratory results as necessary. The nurse will share responsibility with the department dietician in following department protocol related to Newborn Screening and will skillfully and consistently perform daily clinical duties per established policy and procedure.
Education and Experience:
Graduate from an accredited school of vocational nursing
Minimum 1 year pediatric specialty nursing experience or equivalent (i.e., PICU, inpatient pediatric nursing unit) required
Must exhibit strong counseling abilities; and competent clinical judgment skills; effective organizational/time management skills and appropriate communication skills
Ability to work independently
Fluency in both English and Spanish, preferred
Current license to practice vocational nursing in the state of Texas
CPR (BLS) required
