The Post-Doctoral Scholar in the laboratory of Dr. Anusha Kalbasi will perform independent research using computational single-cell approaches to study cancer biology and cancer immunology, with an emphasis on improving the treatment of patients with sarcoma. The UCLA Sarcoma Program is an international leader in the care of patients with sarcoma, with a vibrant research environment that spans basic, translational and clinical work. Dr. Kalbasi's laboratory uses human and mouse models, and samples from patients on clinical trials, to investigate and overcome therapy resistance and explore biology at the tumor-immune interface. This position requires a Ph.D. in computational biology or related field. A background in cancer biology and/or immunology is highly desirable. The position is a non-Senate position for 12-months in the first instance. Step is commensurate with experience.
Start Date: December 1, 2021
Potential projects: (1) Using single-cell transcriptomic (RNA-seq) and epigenetic (ATAC-seq) data to define the trajectory of genetically reprogrammed T cells with superior anti-tumor activity in mouse models. (2) Analysis of dynamic single-cell changes at the single cell level in longitudinal tumor samples obtained from individual patients with sarcoma on a novel immunotherapy clinical trial.
Specific Responsibilities include: study design, data acquisition, data processing, statistical computation, methods development, data interpretation, literature review and manuscript/grant preparation.
Supervision of undergraduates, graduate students and new trainees in the lab.
Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively.
Ability to work independently on scientific projects.
Assist with preparation of grant proposals.
Preparation of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
Required to communicate well with other scientists worldwide.
Candidate should have 4-5 years research experience in computational biology, with a background in tumor biology and immunology preferred
Experience in image processing and analysis also preferred
The candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator and will successfully carry out experiments and analyze the data generated with minimal supervision.
Ability to handle several projects simultaneously.
Willing to help and train various personnel in computational tools and make significant contributions to the design and execution of other laboratory members' experiments.
