Assistant Professor, Broad Institute and Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Broad Institute and MIT
Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts
Higher Education Institution
The Broad Institute together with the Department of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Massachusetts) invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level. The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is an independent, non-profit research organization that convenes a community of researchers from across many disciplines and partner institutions—MIT, Harvard, and Harvard-affiliated hospitals. We seek to better understand the root causes of disease and narrow the gap between genetics and biological mechanism to drive innovative approaches to therapeutic discovery. Upon hiring, the successful candidate will be provided with lab and office space at the Broad, a generous start-up package and access to state-of-the-art core facilities.
We are interested in candidates who have a Ph.D. or M.D., or equivalent, and are pursuing innovative approaches to fundamental problems in molecular, cellular, or organismal biology. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, scientific questions related to cell and molecular biology, developmental biology, computational biology, chemical biology, biophysics, structural biology, physiology, microbial biology, and genetics.
A successful candidate is expected to develop and lead a vibrant, independent research program, to be an active member of the Broad Institute and MIT's Biology Department, and to share our commitment to undergraduate and graduate education by teaching courses and supervising graduate and undergraduate research. We are particularly interested in candidates who will help promote diversity, equity and inclusion within the department and Institutes.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, summary of current and proposed research (≤5 pgs), statement on teaching philosophy (~1 pg), statement on mentoring, diversity, and outreach (~2 pgs) that describes the candidate’s experience in these areas and/or how they envision contributing to our ongoing efforts in the Department of Biology and at the Broad Institute. Letters of recommendation should be sent separately from at least three individuals able to evaluate the candidate’s accomplishments and future potential. Application materials should be submitted to: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/19311
Completed applications will be reviewed beginning October 4, 2021.
Note that there is one other search for an Assistant Professor position in the Biology Department. See https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/19300 Candidates may apply to one or both positions, but must submit a separate application for each position.
We strongly encourage individuals from historically underrepresented groups to apply.
