This is a part time limited term appointment for one year anticipated to work 26.25 hours per week. This is a grant funded position.
The Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health combines expertise in basic and applied infectious disease research, public health, wildlife medicine and conservation. The alignment of these areas promotes cross-disciplinary research that is important to the mission of the Department to improve human, animal and ecosystem health. Laboratory research and bioinformatics analyses aim to advance understanding of the intestinal ecosystem, including microbial commensals, and the interaction of the host with enteric pathogens.
The position involves working in a research laboratory setting; at the computer recording, processing and analyzing data; and with animals. The primary activities in the laboratory include DNA extraction, PCR, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence assays, cell culture and similar methods. Daily monitoring, collection of samples (feces) and assisting with necropsies is part of the responsibilities. Occasional weekend monitoring is also required. The individual will be expected to take on new and/or additional duties as skills improve and laboratory needs change. The applicant should be well organized, capable of meticulous data entry, able to follow established research protocols and trouble shoot wet lab procedures. Motivation to learn new laboratory and computational methods, and to contribute to the success of the research is expected. The position requires a college degree in biological sciences, animal sciences, biotechnology, molecular biology or related field.
Bachelor's Degree and one year research lab experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Valid US Drivers License. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. with or without accommodation.
