Assist in developing and conducting research projects, including experimental design, data analysis, documentation of experiment results.
The PIâ™s laboratory employs multiple cutting-edge technologies in genomics and computational biology to investigate the development and function of mammalian brains in the context of human health and disease. Current areas of interest include applying single-nucleus RNA-sequencing and spatial proteomics technologies on human brains to understand disease pathogenesis of Alzheimer disease (AD), Parkinson disease (PD) and Lewy body diseases (LBDs). The position requires working collaboratively with a team of experimental and computational biologists focusing on single-nucleus RNA-seq data analysis and âœmulti-omicsâ data integration with a main goal to identify genetic markers and mechanisms of neurodegeneration that will lead to better disease diagnosis, treatment and eventually cure. The candidate will be responsible for leading and carrying out these innovative projects, assist with grant preparation and reporting, and prepare and submit papers for publication. Successful candidates will have opportunities to travel and to present at national and international conferences.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Design, develops and implements: a) Algorithms and computer software for high-throughput genomics, proteomics, or epigenomics data analysis (e.g. RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, single cell RNA-seq); b) Data management and analysis solutions that aid in the storage, investigation, and dissemination of large data sets; c) Independent research projects, including design of research protocols and development of procedures for the collection, verification, and management of data.
Performs complex systems analysis of data and writes interpretative reports.
Evaluates commercial and academic bioinformatics software.
Trains other researchers on the use of analysis software and research databases.
Assists with grant preparation and reporting of methods.
Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with software implementation, suggests technical or procedural improvements in testing methods.
The ideal candidate will have a Master or Ph.D. degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Statistical Genetics, Medical Statistics, Neuroscience, or a related scientific field and have extensive computational and high-throughput DNA sequence analysis experience.
Analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
Good understanding of computational biology, probabilistic models, statistics, and/or machine learning.
Experience in large scale data analysis (e.g. RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, or single cell RNA-seq) and relevant bioinformatics tools (e.g. Seurat, STAR, DESEQ2 etc.).
Proficiency in scientific programming languages (e.g. Perl, Python, R), in a Linux/UNIX and/or Windows environment.
Knowledge or experience in molecular biology. Knowledge of neuroscience and neurodegeneration is a plus.
Analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
Highly motivated, well organized with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, establishing and maintaining good working relationships with P.I. and other members of the research group.
Bachelorâ™s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field plus four years of experience; OR masterâ™s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field plus two years of experience; OR combined education and experience of nine years.
$51,400.00 - $93,400.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
