The Department of Behavioral and System Neuroscience at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) offers a dynamic and stimulating environment with a focus on alcohol and drug abuse research and the neuroscience of behavior. The department hosts three training grants including one on the biological basis of alcoholism.
The Department of Behavioral Neuroscience and the PI of the lab are committed to ensure that graduate students, post-docs, and research staff are treated with dignity and respect and understand that diversity creates an environment conducive to the development of excellence in research and novel ideas
A Post Doctoral Research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Marina Guizzetti, Department of Behavioral Neuroscience.
The main research interest of Dr. Guizzettis laboratory is the identification of novel mechanisms of astrocyte-neuron interactions involved in neuronal plasticity in the developing and adult brain. We are particularly interested in the effects of alcohol exposure on astrocyte-specific gene expression and gene translation and how these changes alter normal brain development, potentially through alterations of the brain extracellular matrix (ECM). Key responsibilities include:
Bench lab work relevant to assigned projects
Preparation of manuscripts
Assisting with preparation of funding proposals
PhD in related field
Strong scientific and technical background in molecular and cellular biology
Proficiency in the preparation of scientific manuscripts
Strong organizational skills
Strong work ethic
Experience in molecular biology, RNA analysis, and animal handling including behavioral analysis
Experience with RNA-Seq data analysis and interpretation
Experience with fluorescence microscopy
Experience with FACS
