Conducts experimental research lab work. Assists in design of one or more specific phase(s) of entire project(s). Completes mathematical calculations, &/or computer tasks &/or assists in judging validity of data. Follows appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical & Good Laboratory Practices.
Following protocols, designs, sets-up and conducts basic experiments.
Analyzes and troubleshoots protocols and data obtained from individual experiments and recommends alternatives and suggestions to improve processes, validity and/or accuracy.
Using a fully functioning level of skill, completes the following activities (please highlight):
DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, purification and expression
Southern, Northern, Western blotting
Cloning, mapping and sequencing of DNA
Cell culture, cell isolation
Breeding and screening transgenic mice
Database management of colony
Maintains detailed records of results which may include collecting, extracting & entering data.
Manipulates, interprets &/or presents results
Prepares charts & graphs for presentations & publications.
Tracks & summarizes lab supply expenses.
Orders &/or maintains inventory of reagent, mice &/or lab supplies.
May train students.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Working knowledge of computers and software (Microsoft Word, Excel), basic statistics,
Ability to work independently; strong organizational skills and multitasking will be required
Experience with maintenance of cell lines and basic molecular biology approaches (PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, western blotting etc.)

Previous experience working in a research lab setting is essential
Bachelor’s or Master’s level degree
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Experience in stem cell maintenance and neuronal differentiation techniques, immunohistochemistry and genome editing
Proficiency in genetics techniques, including next-generation DNA and/or RNA sequencing library preparation is preferred
Experience with analysis of next generation sequencing data, and/or bioinformatics, including proficiency with the UNIX environment, python
