Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research on RNA metabolism in stem cells, development and disease, using in vitro cellular models as well as transgenic mice. The project will involve experimental procedures to permit biochemical examinations of specimens and tissues, performed by the Postdoctoral Fellow or by others in the research group, or by collaborators in other groups. The project largely involves bioinformatics analysis of transcriptomic and genomics data. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to participate in the configuration and maintenance of data bases necessary for conduct of the project. Is expected to prepare manuscripts as well as contribute to the preparation of grant and fellowship applications. The fellow will also be expected to guide the research project of undergraduate research assistants. This is a grant-funded position contingent on the availability of funds to support it.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Conducts experiments using in vitro cancer cells and stem cell models, in which specific genes are perturbed, involving high-throughput assessment of RNA expression, RNA stability and translation, as well as protein abundance.
Conduct generation, maintenance and investigation of transgenic mouse models and perform above analyses on cells and tissues derived from animal models.
Carry out bioinformatic analyses of transcriptomic and genomic data, with the goal of defining regulatory pathways involved in RNA metabolism and function.
Develop innovative biochemical and RNA-sequencing methods to facilitate better understanding of RNA metabolism and function.
Develop and apply CRISPR/Cas systems for screening and validation of genes involved in RNA metabolism and function.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology or a related science.
All But Degree (ABD) status will also be considered.
Experience is required with standard molecular biology and cell biology techniques, as well as RNA and protein biochemical analyses.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Prior experience and productivity in RNA Biology research must be demonstrated.
The candidate is expected to be proficient in spoken and written English.
Background and proficiency in RNA biochemistry is needed.
Candidates with previous experience in bioinformatics analysis of RNA-sequencing data and/or previous experience in working with embryonic stem cells and transgenic mouse models are favorably considered.
