Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume): Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biology, Microbiology or closely related field. Experience in cell culture, protein analysis by western blotting, the analysis of gene expression (qRT-PCR), genetic manipulation (ex. CRISPR, shRNA, over-expression). Strong data analysis and interpretation skills and demonstrated publication record.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in working with animal models of disease. Experience with Immunostaining. Experience with Flow Cytometry. Experience with Biochemical characterization of signaling pathways.
Brief Description of Duties: The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the department of Pathology. To learn more about our research, visit https://www.shroyerlab.com . The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The ideal candidate is a molecular and cellular biologist, experienced in developing and working with in vitro and in vivo models of disease. The incumbent should also have strong oral and written communication skills, as well as possess the ability to work both independently and as a productive member of a research team.
Experimental design, management, and bench-based research including:
Cell culture, including migration and cell viability assays
Cell fractionation and RNA/protein extraction from tissues and cell lines
Prepare and run Western-blot and SDS-Page gels
Quantitative analysis of mRNA transcripts by qRT-PCR
Animal necropsy and tissue processing
Immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry
Data analysis and interpretation using Graphpad, Illustrator, and PowerPoint
Oral presentations in lab meetings and scientific symposia
Literature review and interpretation.
Manuscript and grant preparation.
Other duties as assigned. Attend and participate in lab meetings and in other weekly meetings, and in department and cancer center seminars and symposia.
