Clinical Laboratory Technologist I - Lead Tech Molecular Genetics - 2102324
At Stony Brook Medicine, a TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist I is a valuable member of our team, who will demonstrate a high degree of technical competence and knowledge in current methods and techniques. The SL-4 Clinical Laboratory Technologist I will assume the role of Lead Technologist for the Molecular Genetics Laboratory and be responsible for the day-to-day operation under the direction of the SL-5 Associate Technical Director, Molecular Genetics Laboratory. This includes ensuring test results are accurate and timely for the Molecular Genetics Laboratory. Under the direction of the Associate Technical Director, Molecular Genetics Laboratory, they will be responsible for oversight of day-to-day operations to ensure accurate and timely reporting of patient results and compliance with all regulatory standards.

Duties of a Clinical Laboratory Technologist I - Molecular Genetics may include the following but are not limited to:
Responsible for the performance of test analysis for assigned test menu.
Responsible for the day-to-day operation under the direction of the SL-5 Associate Technical Director, Molecular Genetics Laboratory. This includes ensuring test results are accurate and timely for the Molecular Genetics Laboratory.
Assist in the development and maintenance of all Molecular Genetics Laboratory Policy & Procedures manuals in compliance with all relevant regulatory standards.
Assist in development and testing of all LIS related systems. To include but not limited to new tests additions to the test menu, upgrades to current systems and any new systems incorporated into the hospital or Molecular Genetics Laboratory.
Participates in the development, expansion and implementation of the departmental quality control program. Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency standards. Takes corrective action as needed. Insures the validity of test results concurrent to any identified quality control problem. Brings non-conformances to attention of SL-5 Molecular Genetics Laboratory Supervisor and/or Head ASAP. Responsible for oversight of QA for the Molecular Genetics Laboratory.
Participates in development and implementation of a routine preventive maintenance program for equipment in the Molecular Genetics Laboratory according to all relevant regulatory agency mandates and adherence to vendor specifications.
Responsible for assisting in the training of all personnel:
Current testing protocols when needed
Software upgrades and system functions.
Responsible for trouble-shooting and emergency repair of instrumentation.
Proficient in safe laboratory practices according to the Department of Laboratories' Safety Plan, as endorsed by the New York State Department of Health, PESH, CAP, and other relevant regulatory agencies. Ensures compliance with all Laboratory Safety practices. Oversight and responsibility for staff compliance of the Laboratory Safety Plan and other relevant policies and procedures for the Molecular Genetics Laboratory. Brings any safety issues forward asap to the SL-5 Molecular Genetics Laboratory Supervisor and/or the Laboratory QSM.
Must review, learn and understand all applicable NYDOH/CAP/JC standards and regulations. Must assist in implementation of such standards and ensure compliance with aforementioned standards and regulations. Must be completely prepared for on-site verbal examination by NYDOH/CAP/JC inspectors concerning compliance with all standards and regulations. Responsible for Molecular Genetics staff's compliance with all relevant regulatory standards. Brings any unresolved non-conformances to the attention of the SL-5 Molecular Genetics Laboratory Supervisor and/or the Laboratory QSM ASAP.
Participates in Monthly Mock Inspections as assigned which is coordinated by the Laboratory QSM to ensure compliance of all standards and regulations.
May assume responsibility as SL-5 for the Molecular Genetics Laboratory on a temporary basis as necessary.
Provide statistical reports as requested to include but not limited to monthly test statistics, etc.
Assist in Inventory Control for reagents and supplies for the Molecular Genetics Laboratory.
Assists with Competency assessment of staff as directed by the SL5 Associate Technical Director.
Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or Biological Science or Life Sciences.
NYS License as Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
5+ years of Molecular Genetics experience.
Excellent written and interpersonal communications
Experience in maintenance of instrumentation utilized within a Molecular Genetics Laboratory
Competency in computer skills.
