Research Associate – In Vivo Research Technician
Affinia Therapeutics is seeking an In Vivo Research Technician to join our Preclinical Research team. You will be part of a group focused on performing preclinical-stage studies that is critical in supporting our next-generation gene therapy research. You will be the lead technician for multiple basic and complex in-life experiments reporting to the Associate Director of In Vivo Studies. Working both indepently on studies and collaboratively with multiple teams to execute the studies will be an important part of the position.
This position is located at the Affinia Therapeutics site in Waltham, MA.
Will independently perform all in-vivo technical procedures including test article administration as well as survival surgical procedures in research rodents.
Take a lead role in the activites required to carry out all internal in-vivo studies.
Provide post-operative care in rodents to ensure proper analgesia and pain management.
Work alongside contract technicians and ensure flawless animal care and welfare is conducted throughout the research studies.
Perform in-vivo imaging via IVIS fluorescent imaging.
Perform in-vivo functional tests such as rotarod and grip strength.
Generate and report data obtained from all in-vivo procedures.
Perform gross necropsy for organ harvest and morphological measurements.
Review and adhere to all company standards, IACUC approved SOPs and required safety procedures.
Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.Sc.) in animal or life sciences related scientific area.
Must be able to work in a laboratory setting with direct exposure to/handling of laboratory animals.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in animal research and husbandry, specifically working with mouse models.
Proficient in multiple routes of administrations (IV-tail vein, SC, IP, IM)
Highly detailed and excellent record keeping, adhering to GLP-like standards.
Ability to work independently on repetitive tasks quickly and efficiently.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Must be flexible and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
Experience with stereotaxic surgery, performing ICV as well as intraparenchymal injections to specific brain regions.
Previous experience working with multiple desease models and understanding of animal model characterization.
Previous experience working with AAV vectors and with in vivo imaging systems
