There is a research opportunity in the laboratory of David H. Gutmann, M.D., Ph.D. (https://gutmannlab.wustl.edu/), Director of the Washington University Neurofibromatosis Center (https://nfcenter.wustl.edu). We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with experience in basic cell and molecular biology. You would be joining a vibrant research team focused on discovering the genomic, genetic, cellular and molecular determinants that cause nervous system dysfunction in people with a common neurogenetic disorder, Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Children with NF1 are at risk for brain and nerve tumors, vision loss, learning problems, autism, and developmental disabilities. For the past 25 years, our laboratory has used a combination of novel genetically engineered mice and human induced pluripotent stem cells to identify new treatments for individuals with NF1, but also to better understand similar medical problems in the general population.
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Base pay commensurate with experience.
Experience in mammalian cell culture and histology.
Excellent basic laboratory, organizational and record keeping skills.
Experience with molecular biology techniques.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
Familiarity with computer software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
Bachelor's degree and at least two years of laboratory experience. Candidates with additional education and experience are encouraged to apply.
