Postdoctoral Scholar - Immuno-Virology & Vaccine Development
The Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Immunology at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, School of Medicine, at the University of California, Irvine has two openings for postdoctoral scholar positions. The positions will be involved in vitro an In vivo analysis of B and T cell responses to herpes and COVID viruses in humans and animal models.
The Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Immunology (LCMI), headed by Dr. Lbachir BenMohamed, is developing a new class of human herpes vaccines based on an innovative strategy for the discovery of asymptomatic epitopes that induce protective T cell immunity. LCMI employs a proprietary approach that mimics the natural immune response to comprehensively screen for herpes antigens that are protective across diverse human populations. LCMI has demonstrated preclinical proof-of-concept with vaccines for herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2 (HSV-1 and HSV-2) infection and disease that affect hundreds of millions of people worldwide. The same strategy is also being applied in the lab to develop vaccines against cancers. The team expects to begin clinical trials for its lead research program, a therapeutic vaccine for HSV-1 and HSV-2, within the next few years.
Recent Ph.D, or M.D./Ph.D. graduates in the Biological/Immunological Sciences preferred. Interdisciplinary skills and approaches in Genomics, RNA Sequencing, FACS, Advanced Imaging, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Immunology and Cell Biology are strongly desired. The incumbent must be comfortable and/or have experience in working with laboratory animals (mice, guinea pigs, hamsters and rabbits), with human samples and an understanding of advanced immunological, virological methods and/or genomics.
Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must possess a Ph.D or M.D./Ph.D. degree in the Biological/Immunological Sciences or equivalent.
