Associate Professional Specialist - Bioinfomatics studies of novel nitrogen cycling microbes in the marine environmentLocation:Princeton, NJOpen DateMay 2021DescriptionThe Ward lab in the Department of Geosciences at Princeton University is seeking a motivated associate professional specialist to explore the pathways and mechanisms of nitrogen transformations in marine systems (oxygen minimum zones, estuaries, coastal environment). This project seeks molecular and biochemical evidence to explain novel nitrogen transformations detected in seawater using metagenomics databases as well as targeted analysis of experimental samples. This associate professional specialist position will be responsible for developing bioinformatics pipelines for analysis of deeply sequenced metagenomic datasets, implementing state of the art methodology for analysis of new datasets in addition to mining of existing public databases, standardizing the bioinformatics methods and recordkeeping across projects in the lab and collaborating with post docs and graduate students to apply bioinformatics analysis to multiple different problems in marine microbial biogeochemistry. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility for renewal for an additional year contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funding. The preferred start date is 1 September 2021, although this may be adjusted to a mutually-agreed date. The successful applicant will join a diverse lab group in an intellectually broad department, with opportunities for collaboration with scientists working in many aspects of oceanography, climate and environmental sciences.
