We are seeking a full-time clinical genetic counselor to join a dynamic and supportive team of five genetic counselors, two clinical geneticists and five neurogenetics experts.
This position will be based in the department of Neurology and Developmental Medicine.
The clinical focus of this position will include working with children and adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities, epilepsy, and a range of other neurogenetic conditions. The Institute is at the forefront of utilizing advanced genomic technologies to diagnose and care for patients with rare genetic disorders.
We are seeking a genetic counselor who has excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Duties will include performing family history and risk assessment, coordinating genetic testing, educating about genetic diagnoses, counseling and providing support for patients and their family members.
The genetic counselor will work within a multi-disciplinary team with a joint focus on providing holistic care to our patients. The genetic counseling team receives extensive support from a genetic counselor assistant, clinic coordinators, administrative assistants and nursing staff, which allows the genetic counselors to devote their efforts to clinical care.
Mentoring and supervision will be provided by a senior clinical genetic counselor, as well as other members of the genetic counseling and neurogenetics team. There are opportunities to participate in teaching of genetic counseling graduate students. In addition, research opportunities are available and encouraged.
ABGC board-eligible or -certified. Trained in clinical genetics, communication of genetic risk, counseling techniques, counseling of research participants.
