Under general supervision, employs a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in a particular field of specialization to plan, coordinate, and conduct research. The Research Associate will collect plant samples, isolate microbial organism, conduct genomic analyses of Pseudomonas, develop a quantitative PCR (qPCR)approach to detect the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas amygdali from plant materials. The Research Associate will also help the supervisor maintain the research laboratory including the biosafety protocols and conducting other research activities.
The Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Entomology & Plant Pathology is a comprehensive department with an academic, research and service mission. The Department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the College of Agriculture and Life Science, and currently advises approximately 330 undergraduates and 60 graduate students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Collect environmental samples 2. Isolate microbial organisms 3. Identify the organisms 4. Conduct genome sequencing and analyses 5. Develop pathogen-specific qPCR protocols. 6. Maintain the research laboratories 7. Practice good safety control protocols 8. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Education: Bachelor's degree in related discipline.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with the education and/or experience of the candidate.
Research experience in genomics and microbiology
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Familiar with microbiology techniques, such as sterile operation, medium preparation, microbial isolation 2. Familiar with general procedures of DNA extraction, qPCR analysis and microbial identification 3. Familiar with bioinformatics, such as DNA sequence analysis software and genomewide analysis 4. Excellent computer skills such as spreadsheets and word processing 5. Excellent interpersonal communications, organizational and problem-solving skills 6. Ability to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines 7. Ability to work as a team member 8. Ability to anticipate barriers to project completion, plan and manage contingencies
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. Require to work in a Biosafety level-2 research laboratory 2. Occasionally to drive to fields and expose to outdoor conditions 3. Frequent, external imposed deadlines
