The BI Engineer will focus on creating healthcare analytics tools for customers using PowerBI to improve patient outcomes and efficiencies. The BI Engineer will work with data from various healthcare data sources, creating custom business rules, building data pipelines, reports, and data visualizations, collaborating with data engineers on data architecture and design, creating technical documentation, and participating in selection of new data technologies for use in solutions. This position is part of the Digital Applications & Analytics team.In this position you will be engaged on projects that will ultimately use the data for advanced analytics techniques, such as optimization, forecasting, machine learning, predictive maintenance, and statistical analysis to develop solutions that help deliver significant value to customers.
Design, develop, and test visual reports, dashboards, & KPIs in Power BI
Maintain existing data solutions, reports & dashboards, and identify and act upon opportunities to improve the system process flow, performance, and technical efficiencies
Write SQL queries to connect to data sources and write ETLs
Understand business requirements and choose a data model that best fits user needs, customizing when needed
Implement row level security on data and productionize
Develop tabular and multidimensional models that follow industry best practice
Publish and schedule automated refreshes per business requirements
Develop custom visuals for specific data in Power BI
Work with team and other stakeholders to identity and understand source data system & business requirements for solutions delivery
Work with data team to understand system requirements, producing both business process and technical documentation, and translating into data solutions.
Participate in investigation of new technology solutions and selection of new technologies, consult on requirements, building prototypes
Map source data to models that describe processes and data flows related to applications of simple to moderate complexity.
Strong problem-solving skills with ability to evaluate and implement the most efficient and effective solution when considering various BI and data engineering options and translating data into meaningful visualizations
Strong analytical skills with ability to understand and derive value from complex clinical and device data
Ability to understand and document system requirements and proactively identify edge cases (exceptions)
Ability to design solutions that solve complex business problems that are simple to implement and easy to maintain
Curious, self-motivating, driven, and have a passion for problem solving
Qualifications/Work Experience Preferred
Minimum 2 years relevant work experience (if bachelor's degree) or minimum 1-year relevant work experience (if master's degree) with a proven track record in driving value in a commercial setting using BI/data engineering skills
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Information Systems, Software/Data Engineering, Bioinformatics, or related fields
Minimum of 2 years of experience working with cloud-based solutions in Azure, AWS, GCP, or similar
Proficient in Power BI, DAX, SQL, ETL Orchestration (Azure Data Factory, AWS Data Pipeline or similar)
Ability to pick up and learn new technologies quickly
Strong data analysis and communication skills
Experience and technical knowledge in ETL Orchestration (Azure Data Factory, AWS Data Pipeline or similar), data quality, relational and dimensional modeling, and structured(databases) and unstructured data
Some knowledge in Python & Databricks preferred
Experience in software development environments using Agile / SCRUM, and code management/versioning (e.g. git)
Ability to understand complex and ambiguous business needs
Experience developing external facing analytics solutions a plus
Experience/familiarity with healthcare data a plus
