The mission of the Marie-Jose and Henry R. Kravis Center for Molecular Oncology (CMO) is to promote precision oncology through genomic analysis to guide the diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients. The CMO brings together clinicians and scientists throughout MSKCC to establish novel genomic methodologies and conduct large-scale translational research involving molecular characterization of patient tumor specimens in order to identify correlations between genomic features and clinical outcomes.
The Berger laboratory, affiliated with the CMO, is a group of experimental and computational scientists dedicated to the characterization of genetic mutations in human tumors in order to identify biomarkers of cancer progression and drug response. Using massively parallel next-generation DNA and RNA sequencing, the lab is developing and applying methods to profile individual patient-derived specimens including tumor tissue and circulating tumor DNA for somatic base mutations and other genomic aberrations that may influence response to therapy. Having established the capability to prospectively sequence patients tumors to enable treatment selection, we are analyzing the vast clinical genomic data set of annotated tumor specimens spanning all cancer subtypes to identify prognostic and predictive biomarkers.
The Berger laboratory is seeking an outstanding Computational Biologist with a strong interest in performing computational oncology research with questions centered around understanding the patients tumors, their responses to treatment and mechanisms of disease progression. The candidate will interact with and learn from investigators with expertise in computational biology, genomic technologies, molecular pathology, and clinical oncology. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong initiative, self-motivation, be an innovative thinker, exceptional communicator, capable of carrying out multiple tasks in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, and will enjoy working with an interdisciplinary team.

Present results and progress updates at lab meetings, CMO meetings, to collaborating clinicians/researchers and outside conferences (if desired).
Contribute to work that will be central to several major projects for which co-authorship is expected.
Masters of Science in cancer biology, genetics, computational biology, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience in academic or corporate research.
Familiarity with fundamental concepts and background in cancer biology research preferred (but not required)
Hands-on experience managing, curating and analyzing large biological datasets
Demonstrable working knowledge and application of basic statistics in biological data analysis
Familiarity with genomics pipelines and best practices of analyzing next generation sequencing data (WES, WGS or RNA-seq, etc)
Knowledge of standard bioinformatics concepts, methods, and tools.
Ability to solve complex problems individually and as part of a team.
Strong organizational and troubleshooting abilities, attention to detail and accuracy, and outstanding oral and written English communication skills.
PhD in cancer biology, genetics, computational biology, or a related field.
Extensive experience in cancer biology and cancer genomic analysis.
