Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a part time Temporary Research Assistant for the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics within the New Jersey Medical School.
The purpose of this position is to work with the Principal investigator to help complete experiments that involve microscope work, basic cell culture work and possibly some work with rodents to measure animal weight, infection and overall health after protozoal infections.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Works with principal investigator to do microscope work to look at parasites infections in formalin-embedded mouse tissue. Performs laboratory research requiring analysis of mouse tissues and application of standard cellular, molecular, biochemical, and animal husbandry procedures.
Uses culture media and sterile technique to incubate cells in tissue culture flasks.
Does serial dilutions of biological organisms to assess numbers.
Uses laboratory materials such as histological fixatives and staining reagents to visualize cells.
Follows protocols to conduct basic molecular genetic and cell biology experiments.
Maintains an organized and up to date and detailed notebook.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree or higher and qualifications in lab technology, sufficient capacity and experience to gain expertise in the above duties.
Salary: $20 per hour
