Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) invites applications for a Computational Science Developer I in the Sequencing Technologies and Analysis Resource at CSHL. The Sequencing Technologies and Analysis Resource (CSHL-STAR) is located on the main campus of CSHL and focuses on bioinformatics support for sequence data analysis including single-cell sequencing, long read sequencing, next generation sequencing, as well as standard genomics analysis. We are seeking a computational developer who has experience with web server maintenance, systems administration, and software development for scientific research. This position requires a working knowledge of one or more programming languages and software development techniques including, but not limited to, source code management systems, system build requirements analysis, regression testing and bug tracking.
Strong background in Bioinformatics preferred, with at least a BS in Biology, Bioinformatics or Computer Science, and with extensive computational programming experience. Must be able to work efficiently and independently and must have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience with Linux/Unix environments and web server maintenance is required. Expertise with multiple scripting/programming languages (C/Fortran, Perl/Python, R, and/or Java) is required. Experience with existing bioinformatics tools, databases and software is preferred, with a strong preference for experience with database development (SQL) and the Galaxy platform. Additional experience with bioinformatics analysis of sequencing data (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, exome-seq, etc) is strongly preferred.
