Under limited supervision, the incumbent will conduct experiments in plant molecular genetics and aid in organizing and maintaining large greenhouse experiments; routine sowing, transplanting, cultivation, maintenance of both greenhouse and growth chamber plant material; harvesting and cataloging seed stocks; quantification of plant growth; preparation of microbial cultures using sterile technique; DNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction, next-generation library preparation, agarose gel electrophoresis, preparation of solutions and growth media, ordering of lab supplies, and research related organizational tasks.
Prepare stock solutions for lab and order supplies for laboratory. Monitor inventory of laboratory reagents and consumables
Organize and maintain medium to large greenhouse experiments; plant seeds, harvest seed, assist with plant maintenance, propagation of seed stocks, perform a variety of plant phenotyping protocols. Maintain and grow microbial stocks.
Conduct various experimental procedures including DNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction, next-generation sequencing library preparation, and agarose gel electrophoresis.
Strong training in molecular biology techniques.
Ability to perform close, precise manual tasks.
Exceptional organizational and record keeping skills.
Ability to handle, catalog and track large numbers of samples over extended periods.
Course work in biology with a bachelor's degree in Plant or Microbial Sciences preferred and/or equivalent years experience/training.
Experience with molecular biology laboratory technique.
Demonstrated skill in molecular biology technique.
General plant care skills like sowing, cultivating, crossing, harvesting of large numbers of plants for multiple experiments in greenhouse and growth chambers.
Experince with next generation sequencing library preparation.
Experience with sterile technique for handling microbial cultures.
Salary & Benefits
