CI / Research Nurse I (part-time)
The Center for Shock, Trauma and Anesthesiology Research Center/Anesthesiology Research at the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Medicine is seeking a part-timeCI (contractual) / Research Nurse I . Under general supervision this individual will serve as the primary technical support and will assist with protocols, organizing and entering clinical research data into applicable databases.
The STAR-ORC serves as the research arm of the Program of Trauma and the Department of Anesthesiology as well as the National Study Center. It includes Basic, Translational, and Clinical Research. It works with diverse funding streams, including but not limited to NIH and DoD and NHTSA, as well numerous industry and foundation partners.
The Department of Anesthesiology Research has been awarded a 3-year contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to determine if and how clinical outcomes after severe traumatic brain injury are related to potential biomarkers present in the blood and stool. These biomarkers include blood cell gene expression, blood cell energy metabolism, and the gut microbiome. The goal of this study is to improve personalized critical care following traumatic brain injury.
This position is temporary part-time/non-benefitted.
1. Completes case report forms and other records documenting activities such as treatments and medications received. Compiles and presents statistics of study progress.
2. Reviews medical records and extracts, enters, and updates information into an automated data file or system.

Experience: One (1) year experience as a Registered Nurse.
Other: Currently licensed with the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses as a Registered Nurse under Maryland State Law.
Preferred: Experience with IRB applications, critical care/ICU clinical records including EPIC and RedCAP. Familiarity with critical care or injury patients and a basic understanding of lab values, imaging, and interpretation.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the Maryland Nurse Practice Act for Registered Nurses. Thorough knowledge of the principles of aseptic technique and infection control including blood and body fluid precautions. Ability to perform extensive standing and walking. Thorough knowledge, skill, and ability to perform various medical and nursing procedures and to operate medical equipment. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data. Ability to operate computers and other office equipment. Skill and ability to interact with the public, health care providers, agencies, and facilities. Thorough knowledge of and compliance with confidentiality of records and communications regarding clients.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
