The Rutgers University Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey (HGINJ) (https://hginj.org/) seeks nominations or applications from leading scholars for the successor Executive Director of HGINJ. The position is accompanied by very significant resources and new faculty appointments that will build on existing strengths in both research and educational programs. This individual will provide scientific leadership as well as a personal vision for the talented and productive research groups in HGINJ, each of whom has its own research funding. The Director will also be responsible for the administrative and financial stewardship of the institute.
The Institute was established in 2000 to complement the Rutgers Department of Genetics which was founded by Dr. Jay A. Tischfield in 1998. HGINJ fosters collaborative research and engages in entrepreneurial activity that grows the Institute's scientific reputation and visibility. The new director will continue to pursue these objectives and incorporate his or her own talents to take HGINJ to the next level. There is ample recently renovated space suitable for hiring new members and funding is available to support expansion of academic and research positions. The Executive Director may also seek to appoint new members from schools not currently represented in HGINJ such as the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy and others on the extensive and diverse New Brunswick flagship campus.
The Executive Director of HGINJ reports directly to the Chancellor for Rutgers University–New Brunswick. It is envisioned that the selected candidate will be appointed in the Rutgers University Department of Genetics in the School of Arts and Sciences, with adjunct positions in other departments as is appropriate. The position includes access to advanced genomic technologies through our commercial partner Infinity BiologiX® (https://ibx.bio/) and within Rutgers as well as the HGINJ Imaging Core, consisting of state-of-the-art microscopes, including several confocal and super-resolution microscopes.
Candidates must demonstrate qualities of leadership, vision, and innovation, and have a successful history of discovery and publication as illustrated by significant, consistent and current grant funding. Entrepreneurial experience is a plus. The desired appointment start date is July 1, 2021. All applications, nominations, and inquiries are invited. Applications should include a current CV and a letter of interest. Review of candidates will begin April 30, 2021. Initial inquiries will be treated as confidential.
