The Golden Lab in the UW Department of Biological Structure has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist 3.
The Golden Lab focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms and circuits guiding motivated social behavior using rodent models, with a special interest in aggression reward, addiction and depression. We use chemogenetics, optogenetics, calcium imaging, whole-mount light-sheet fluorescent microscopy and machine-learning approaches.
This Research Scientist 3 position will contribute to ongoing, as well as lead and develop future, light sheet fluorescent microscopy projects, by contributing to the overall goals of the research team and will perform the following tasks:
RESPONSIBILITIES •Light sheet fluorescent microscopy imaging of whole brain samples using established methods, and the development and optimization of new methods. •Collection of perfused tissue for tissue clearing pipelines. •Whole mount tissue clearing and staining using established organic and aqueous methods. •Analysis of whole brain imaging datasets using established pipelines, with a strong command of Python and a familiarity with R and Matlab. •Development and optimization of new whole brain imaging pipelines. •Maintenance of light sheet fluorescent microscopy and tissue clearing equipment. •Procurement and organization of light sheet microscopy and tissue clearing reagents. •Assistance with general molecular genetics methods in support of microscopy projects. •Assistance with documentation for protocols and datasets.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS •Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, engineering, or related field and three years of relevant laboratory experience OR a master's degree in neuroscience, engineering, or related field, and one year of relevant laboratory experience. •The ideal candidate is establishing technical expertise and has a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of light sheet fluorescent microscopy or related microscopy approaches. •Fluency with R, Matlab, or Python. •Must be knowledgeable about mice handling, and previous mouse experience is strongly preferred.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.
DESIRED REQUIREMENTS •Master's degree in neuroscience or related field. •An interest and willingness to learn common molecular genetics methods. •An interest and willingness to learn common rodent behavioral procedures.
