The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) is currently recruiting a Laboratory Director for its CLIA and CAP-accredited Translational Genomics Laboratory (TGL). The candidate will have an academic appointment in an appropriate department and rank and compensation will be commensurate with experience. The director will be responsible for the overall operation of the TGL and working with the Quality Assurance Manager to ensure regulatory compliance. The candidate will be responsible for review of data and sign-out of reports, development and validation of new molecular assays, and support of existing testing panels. The TGL currently supports UMGCCC somatic cancer diagnostics and clinical trials, and pharmacogenomic efforts at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). The new director will have the opportunity to extend the test menu beyond cancer via basic, translation and clinical research collaborations with UMMC departments and centers, and other entities within the UMMS system.
ABOUT THE TGL:
The TGL was established in 2011 through the UMSOM Program in Personalized and Genomic Medicine (PPGM) to accelerate translation from discovery to precision health care. Through partnerships across UMSOM and UMMC the TGL offers diverse clinical tests. A key focus is development of molecular oncology tests to support patient care and clinical trials. Current validated tests utilize technologies including genotyping, microarray, Sanger sequencing, fragment analysis, and next generation sequencing. A key strength of the TGL is rapid turnaround which allows physicians to rapidly start patients on clinical trials based on molecular profiles.
The successful candidate will hold an MD and/or PhD and possess the necessary credentials to serve as Director of a CAP-accredited high complexity testing laboratory. If PhD, the candidate must be board certified or eligible to be certified in Molecular Genetic Pathology, Molecular Genetics and Genomics, or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics. Candidates should have at least one year of independent working experience signing out molecular tests in a clinical laboratory, preferably focused on molecular cancer testing.
