Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, a world-renowned scientific research facility on Long Island’s North Shore, is searching for a candidate for the Research Compliance Specialist opening. The ideal candidate will coordinate the needs of research faculty and scientific staff to ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, processes and government regulations.
Additional responsibilities of the Research Compliance Specialist will include: - Responsible for institutional review of all research involving human subjects and/or rDNA. - Aides the department in ensuring the effective operation of the CSHL Institutional Review Board for the protection of human subjects (IRB), the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). - Reads and reviews IRB and IBC submissions. - Assists the scientific staff in submissions to the IRB and the IBC. - Maintains laboratory records. - Monitors the status of submissions, reviews, reviewer communications, and follows up using a specified database. - Keeps abreast of federal regulations - Interacts with the Program Managers for Translational Research Operations coordinating all new projects and protocols. - Writes patient consent forms according to federal regulations. - Interacts with the Program Managers for Translational and Clinical Research Operations coordinating all new projects and protocols.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required and Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: 3-5 years’ experience in a biomedical setting required. Some post-doctoral experience – strongly desired. Responsible for institutional review of all research involving human subjects and/or rDNA.
Other: Aides the department in ensuring the effective operation of the CSHL Institutional Review. Liaises with Northwell Health to manage all aspects of clinical trial development, implementation and close-out. Writes patient consent forms according to federal regulations. Designs and manages clinical trial data capture systems. Helps identify select appropriate trials based on resources, patient population and PI expertise. Creates clinical trial study tools. Updates on trial progress. Keeps abreast of federal regulations, including FDA requirements.
Skills: Excellent organizational skills, the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and problem-solving abilities required. Strong communication and excellent interpersonal skills required. Willingness and ability to take initiative, and to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team required.
