TheRabinowitz lab, a recognized leader in metabolomics, seeks a mass spectrometry Research Specialist I or II to contribute to the operations and research efforts of their ~ 25 member team at Princeton University. The Rabinowitz lab aims to obtain a quantitative understanding of metabolism, with the overarching goal of applying this knowledge to the treatment of human disease (cancer, obesity, aging) and the production of biofuels. This is achieved by applying liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy (LC-MS) and isotope tracing, methods in which the lab is a world leader, to yeast, mammalian cells, and animal specimens.
The rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Salary will include the full benefits package. The position is open and review of applications will begin immediately. This will be a one-year term position, with the possibility of renewal given satisfactory job performance and continued funding.
The major work responsibilities of the Research Specialist I /II will be instrument maintenance, sample analyses for collaborative and fee-for-service projects, organization and analysis of raw data, and record keeping. The job also offers the opportunity to engage in method development, unknown metabolite identification, data interpretation, report writing, and organization of team research efforts, which will frequently include collaborators from U Penn, Rutgers, and other Princeton University labs.
Essential qualifications include:
Good hands in lab and dedication to hands-on laboratory work
General knowledge and practical skills in one or more basic chemistry disciplines (analytical, physical, organic, biological)
Solid skills in basic laboratory calculations
Ability to contribute to research projects
Effective communication and great team player
Other valuable experience (not required) includes:
Chromatography, including LC-MS or GC-MS
Unknown compound identification
We expect that the successful candidate will have a college degree, but we are open to applicants with alternative educational backgrounds who demonstrate a strong record of work experience.
