The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) is located12 miles westof the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases.

This position is within the Resources & Logistics unit of the Division of Comparative Medicine, located at the Oregon National Primate Research Center, which is a center at Oregon Health & Science University. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct pedigree and population genetic analyses to support genetic management goals for all NHP colonies, and produce genetic metrics, including parentage and kinship estimates for individuals relative to the rest of the colony, the overall kinship within the colony, and probabilistic allelic diversity measures for individual animals. Additional responsibilities include data entry, feature development, and record maintenance for the ONPRC PRIMe Electronic Health Record system, including animal record data entry, data validation, data corrections, preparation of data reports, and coordinating and attending meetings to develop new methods of data entry and support. The position requires data analysis and management, sample processing and management, and routine laboratory duties such as inventory and ordering of supplies and preparing reagents.

• Bachelor's degree in life science
• Understanding of basic population genetics theory
• Familiarity with at least one programming environment or scripting language, i.e., Linux, R, Python, Perl
• Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to accurately perform research techniques
• Strong attention to accuracy and detail
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in both written and oral formats
• Ability to work independently, as well as in a team
• Proficiency in MS Excel and Word
• Work may involve exposure to wet or slick walking surfaces
• Work may also include areas where there is risk of (1) exposure to zoonotic agents through injury, by direct contact with animals or their tissues and body fluids, or by contact with equipment contaminated by animals or their tissues and body fluids; (2) exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals and sanitizing chemicals
• Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 15 pounds
• A valid Driver's License and the ability to drive DCM/ONPRC vehicles on and off campus
• Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

• Bachelors degree in general biology, genetics, microbiology, or related field
• Previous research experience in population genetics or quantitative genetics, applied technology informatics experience
• Previous laboratory work experience with virology and serology assay techniques
• Previous experience at an animal research facility and experience gathering data from health records.
• Proficiency in R or Python scripting language
• Experience with tissue culture techniques, PCR and serology assay techniques including ELISA and Western BlotFamiliarity with PRIMe EHR database
