Application Review Date The First Review Date for this job is: 3/9/2021 Departmental Overview The Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) is a multidisciplinary research institution focused on genome engineering and potential applications in agriculture, microbiology and biomedicine. It is a joint venture between UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco, with the administrative operations located on the Berkeley campus. This position is located at the UC Berkeley campus. The IGI is presently seeking highly motivated Staff Research Associates (SRAs) to conduct research towards clinical translation of genetic therapies for neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's and Huntington's Disease. This work will be performed as part of a team effort within the Center for Translational Genomics (CTG) at UC Berkeley. Specific goals will be the evaluation of new genome editing enzymes as potential new therapies, the improvement of existing therapeutic approaches, the assessment of ex vivo genome editing outcomes in human neuronal stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs), and the evaluation of the impacts of procedures on the edited NS/PCs. The Staff Research Associates will also collaborate with IGI investigators at UCB, UCSF, UCLA and other IGI-affiliated universities in the use of genome editing to treat neurological disorders. Responsibilities The Staff Research Associate (SRA) will provide support to maintain, operate and quality control the laboratory instruments. The SRA will also lead workstreams involving a variety of techniques in the field of molecular biology, notably the establishment of NS/PC cultures, and the implementation and analysis of CRISPR screenings. The SRA works under the general supervision of the facility manager and offers guidance and insight to other SRA and student workers. The SRA will need to possess excellent oral and written communication skills, a team focused mentality, and the ability to work independently and troubleshoot their own experiments. Advanced troubleshooting of experiments experience is a preferred. The SRA must adhere to all campus and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) policies/procedures. Key Responsibilities include:
