The Science and Mathematics Department at Texas A&M University ⓠCentral Texas (TAMUCT) is seeking applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position. The successful candidate will be expected to teach cell biology, molecular biology, proteomics, immunology, virology, bioinformatics, and in an area of expertise. The candidate shall establish a research program that includes research with undergraduate student collaborators. A Ph.D. in molecular/cell biology or related field is required. Strong teaching skills and experience with undergraduates is required and post-doctoral research experience is desirable. Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, statements of teaching and research philosophies, and three professional letters of reference. Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in molecular/cell biology or related field and undergraduate teaching experience Preferred qualifications: Post-doctoral research, experience in Bioinformatics Job summary/Basic Function: Primarily responsible for the teaching/learning process and will also participate in the necessary operations of the institution. Other responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in the areas of molecular and cell biology, conducting research, advising students, course and program assessment, serving on departmental and university committees, and other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience in teaching and research in molecular/cell biology. Show an expertise in and commitment to undergraduate biology education. Expertise in using instrumentation associated with molecular/cell biology applications. Exhibit enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching and employing innovative teaching methods. Develop collegial relationships with other faculty Able to establish research collaborations with other faculty. Experience in program assessment Salary: Commensurate with experience Hours: Full-time faculty hours (may vary) Paid on a monthly basis Nine-month tenure-track Open until filled with Fall 2021 start date Required Applicant Documents: Cover letter Curriculum Vitae Teaching Philosophy Research Philosophy Undergraduate Transcripts Graduate Transcripts 3 Professional Letters of Reference Description of Job Responsibility/Duty: 70% - Develop and teach a variety of undergraduate level classes in the Biology program; various science electives and other classes as needed. Write syllabi for the courses using the approved format of the College of Arts and Sciences. Meet with students enrolled in their classes when students need additional assistance with class material and assignments. Teach twenty-four workload credits each academic year. Summer semester teaching is negotiated on an as needed basis. 15% - Pursue a research agenda and publish in peer-reviewed journals. Mentor/collaborate with students on independent research projects and prepare students to present their research. Approximately once a year, attend and/or present at conferences to strengthen research and teaching knowledge, and credentials. 15% - Carry out additional requirements of science faculty including: Conduct learning outcome measures on all courses taught to assist in maintaining accreditation Attend university and college faculty meetings Serve on university committees as requested or assigned by Provost, Dean, or Department Chair Provide academic advising to prospective and current students. Other duties as assigned
