Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Institute of Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be working on multiple biomedical informatics and bioinformatics projects at Ahmed Lab. The focus will be on scientific software solution development for integrative clinical, metabolomics, and genomics data analysis for Precision Medicine.
The position will work under the direction of Zeeshan Ahmed, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IFH); Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Rutgers; The State University of New Jersey. Primary host location will be the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research (IFH), established in 1985 by David Mechanic, facilitates collaboration among the social and behavioral sciences, clinical disciplines, basic sciences, and related fields to promote research on critical health and mental health issues. The IFH brings together scholars across and beyond Rutgers into a vibrant interdisciplinary network that advances high quality research in five core areas: behavioral health, health economics, social determinants of health and illness, state health policy, and health services research.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Whole Genome based Variant Annotation and Analysis.
RNA-seq driven Gene Expression and Enrichment analysis.
Developing Machine Learning algorithms for integrative, diagnostic, and predictive analysis.
Programming bioinformatics tools and genomics (WGS & RNA-seq) pipelines, and database modelling and visualization.
Scientific literature reviewing, publications and grants writing, and presentations.
Exploring new ideas and validating hypotheses.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Ph.D. Degree, preferably in Biomedical Informatics or Bioinformatics.
Experience of working within secure data environments e.g., HIPAA, CLIA, IRB etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated analytical and research skills.
Knowledge of new software, scripts, pipelines, and database development.
Analyzing pre-developed software, scripts, pipelines, and databases.
Experience, good knowledge, and interest of programming languages (Java, R, Python, SWIFT, HTML and PHP).
Knowledge of integrated Development Environments (Eclipse, XOCDE).
Knowledge of operating systems (Windows, iOS, Android, and UNIX).
Knowledge of databases (MySQL, MS.SQL).
Knowledge of high-performance computing (HPC) and Cloud computing.
Excellent organization, planning, project management, problem-solving, presentation, and writing skills.
Able to work independently and in teams.
