![]() University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF06261 The Jacobs Laboratory in the UCLA Microbiome Center and the Division of Digestive Diseases in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, is seeking applicants for a post-doctoral fellowship in microbiome science. The laboratory studies the role of intestinal microbes in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and other gastrointestinal diseases using a combination of multi-omics analysis of human cohorts to define microbiome-phenotype associations and in vivo models to elucidate underlying biological mechanisms. The candidate will investigate the hypothesis that IBD-associated genetic variants disrupt pathways that regulate the intestinal microbiota, thereby creating a microbial pre-disease susceptibility state. This will be pursued through the use of gene edited and conditional knockout mice to model the effect of IBD-associated genetic variants on the microbiome. The relevance of these microbial shifts will be further investigated through the use of gnotobiotic mice colonized with human or mouse microbiota. A PhD is required. Applicants must have extensive experience using animal models and molecular biology techniques in their prior scientific projects. Direct experience with microbiome research is welcome but not required. Prior bioinformatics exposure is not necessary.
