The Michigan Center for Translational Pathology (MCTP) is looking for a Research Lab Specialist Associate to serve as an integral member of its In Vivo Group. The MCTP is a large multidisciplinary institute in which sequencing and bioinformatics analysis drives discovery of novel cancer-related genes. The In Vivo group mechanistically evaluates promising targets and tests novel cancer therapies in mouse, cell and human tissue-based models. The position requires an individual comfortable working independently and as part of a team to perform duties as follows:
Maintenance of a transgenic mouse colony.
Tumor xenografting via subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, renal capsule, and orthotopic placement.
Tumor growth monitoring by caliper measurement or imaging.
Pre-operative preparation and performance of aseptic surgery, including orchiectomy.
Administration of therapeutic drugs via subcutaneous, intraperitoneal, IV, and oral gavage delivery.
Mouse necropsy and histological tissue processing (paraffin embedding/ sectioning).
Record keeping, including animal inventory, experimental procedure logs, protocols/ SOPs.
Management of animal protocol in eRAM.
Basic lab management/ EHS compliance.
Bachelor’s degree or higher with specialization in cell biology or a related field.
At least 2 years’ biology lab experience.
Experience in cell culture, DNA/RNA/protein isolation, PCR genotyping, qPCR, Western blotting.
Basic mouse handling experience.
Ability to work in an environment in which one is exposed to animals/ animal dander.
Knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety and ability to work carefully with potentially harmful agents.
Willing to have some schedule flexibility (and occasionally work on weekends)
Cell culture experience
Molecular biology experience (cloning, etc)
Mouse colony management experience
Experience with animal protocol management in eRAM
