Health professional with specialized graduate degree and experience in the areas of medical genetics and counseling. Works in collaboration with Geneticists and other genetic counselor(s) to provide comprehensive clinical genetics services to patients directly or through consultation with their clinicians. Provides information and support to families who have members with birth defects or genetic disorders and to families who may be at risk for a variety of inherited conditions. Identifies families at risk, investigate the problem present in the family, interprets information about the disorder, analyzes inheritance patterns and risks of recurrence and reviews available options with the family. Possesses increased training and skill in assessing patient's genetics needs, in determining priorities of care, and in planning appropriate genetics management consistent with department protocol and provides genetic counseling to appropriate patients
Excellent judgment, maturity, analytic and interpersonal skills. Strong knowledge base in clinical genetics. Ability to work both as a member of a team and independently. Strong computer and research skills.

Master's degree in human Genetics, Genetic Counseling or related field required. Board certified/board eligible by the American Board of Medical Genetics or the American Board of Genetic Counselors required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.
Two years’ experience performing a variety of genetic counseling functions required.
