Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Specialist for the Bioinformatics Shared Resource department at Rutgers, Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The primary purpose of the Senior Bioinformatics Specialist is to work closely with the CIO and other members of the team to ensure the success of the Biomedical Informatics mission: realizing translational medicine by working at the interface of IT, biology, and medicine to link bench and bedside using chemical informatics software technologies. The Bioinformatics Specialist will support the computational biology and cheminformatics needs of researchers at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Collaborates with scientists and clinicians within and outside of the Rutgers Cancer Institute in the application of bioinformatics, computational imaging and systems biology to basic science and investigative clinical research.
Contributes to the Biomedical Informatics Shared Resource to advance translational and precision medicine programs by interfacing with staff and faculty in oncology, medicine and IT, to link bench to bedside.
Leads the activities of small groups of bioinformatics scientists and application developers, establishing project plans, monitoring progress and resolving issues regarding ongoing and new projects.
Analyzes medical imaging and sequencing data using established pipelines.
Contributes to the development of novel algorithms and pipelines for investigative research and clinical applications.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Ph.D. Degree, strong preferences for degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Computational Biology and/or Computer Science.
A minimum of three (3) years demonstrated experience in biomedical informatics, computer science, engineering, or applied mathematics or similar, providing lead expertise in molecular dynamics and computational modeling.
Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to serve as a bridge between experimentalists, clinicians and technical staff.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with other scientists and students.
Team oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills and expected to interact with both clinical and research faculty, as well as the private sector.
Experience in software development in the areas of AI, biomedical imaging, pattern recognition, computer assisted diagnostics, high-performance computing, and applications in building predictive models of the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
Demonstrated exposure to NGS data and image analysis; experience using standard analysis methods and software preferred. Programming skills in C/C++, P, Python, Perl, BASH or similar preferred.
Programming in Java.
Experience working in high performance computing environments preferred.
Experience in statistics or machine learning.
