A Specialist position is currently available in the Laboratory of Dr. Ajay V. Maker, M.D., Chief of Surgical Oncology, in the Department of Surgery at the University of California at San Francisco. Research projects involve immunologic, molecular, genetic, and cellular-based studies to examine the phenotype and function of immune cells in infiltrating metastatic deposits from solid tumors. These studies are performed, in part, on tumor samples from preclinical murine models, human cells, and patient-derived tissues. The findings will have direct translational impact on current and future clinical trials using immunotherapy for patients with cancer. The position will also provide administrative and operations support for the laboratory; research and analytical functions in support of the surgical oncology translational team. The individual will support research activities in the lab by performing experiments that include animal surgeries, T-cell assays, flow cytometry, scRNA-seq, CyTOF, Seahorse, and histology processing and analyses for immune-mechanistic studies. This position will also perform statistics, create data figures, and draft and submit scientific manuscripts. The individual will be responsible for coordinating animal, biological, chemical, radiation, and controlled substance protocol submissions and renewals, including the drafting and maintenance of all laboratory certifications, documentation, IRB, and IACUC animal protocols. This person will also conduct orientation and training of all researchers that join the lab including residents, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and volunteers, assuring that online required training is completed and assuring a safe and congenial environment within this laboratory. Additional responsibilities include ordering equipment and supplies, identifying correct reagents/items, negotiating quotes with vendors, reconciling expense documents, maintaining the budget, and assuring cost savings and the effective use of all shared equipment and supplies. This individual will assist with the oversight of the lab, is responsible for the scheduling and assuring smooth conduct of lab meetings and seminars, audits, and the safe functioning of equipment and freezers.
