The Johns Hopkins University Global mHealth Initiative (JHU-GmI) is a University-wide Community of Excellence, housed in the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (JHSPH). JHU-GmI connects faculty, students, and staff in interdisciplinary collaborations in the field of digital health. Our work spans the development of and research in mobile and wireless technologies for patient and population health. JHU-GmI's mission is to develop responsive innovations and provide rigorous, evidence-based support for mobile information and communication technologies (ICTs) to improve global health. JHU-GmI faculty focus on resource-limited settings where the burden of disease and mortality are the highest. Our access to large field research sites enables real-world validation and evaluation of digital health technologies. Our team has been involved in building global normative standards, guidelines, and digital innovations and approaches that are widely used.
We are recruiting a talented, passionate, and motivated Faculty Research Associate to join our team and be a part of the initiatives underway. In this role, the Research Associate will work with JHU-GmI's network of investigators and collaborators on projects that employ digital strategies to advance healthcare outcomes in the United States and globally. This is a one-year position starting in March/April 2021, with a possible extension for a second year. The position is currently remote, with the expectation that the candidate will relocate to the Baltimore, MD area when University restrictions around COVID-19 are lifted. Given the current travel restrictions, U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is a pre-requisite. The Research Associate will be supporting immediate COVID-19 response activities for the first several months.
Data management, including data checking and cleaning of existing data, as well as creating strategies for capturing, cleaning, and quality control checks for new studies.
Merging data, creating and recoding variables to prepare data for analyses.
Analyzing longitudinal, cross-sectional, and clustered data using a variety of standard statistical techniques, including linear and logistic regression, mixed effects models, survival analysis, principal component analysis, and others as needed.
Interpreting, presenting, and summarizing analyses in various formats including tables, graphs, oral reports, and written reports. This includes internal presentations within the center as well as external communications to collaborators across institutions and conferences.
Providing statistical advice to faculty, staff, and graduate students as needed in regard to study design, sample size, power analysis, etc.
Collaborating closely with investigators, project managers, and other team leadership to ensure that research study or project results and conclusions are presented accurately and without bias.
Demonstrating progress in ability to multi-task and manage time spent working with individual faculty members and on specific projects.
Participating in regularly scheduled meetings with study investigators and team.
Preparing progress reports as needed and maintains appropriate systems for data organization.
Assuring data quality for documentation and dissemination of data.
Conducting and tracking specific activities to accomplish project goals, including evaluating and reporting data and documenting analytic procedures
Assisting in preparing scientific presentations, grant applications, and manuscripts, with the opportunity, if appropriate, to present at meetings, and contribute as a lead and/or co-author on manuscripts.
Overseeing students and supervising their analytical work.
Master's or equivalent degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or another related quantitative field.
Minimum of 1-year of related experience. We require highly specialized advanced knowledge, education, and/or training in specialized field of study to conduct research.
Strong proficiency and experience in R, Stata, SAS, and/or another equivalent software package.
Familiar with conducting longitudinal data analysis, survival analysis, and data visualization.
Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
Able to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team environment with a high degree of initiative and self-motivation.
PhD or equivalent degree in Biostatistics, Data Science, Statistics, or another related quantitative field strongly preferred.
Experience with web programming and data visualization software (e.g., Tableau) is a plus.
