![]() Jr. Specialist I - Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine- Dr. Haczku Lab The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a qualified Junior Specialist. RESEARCH IN SPECIALIZED AREAS (90 % EFFORT) All ranks of the specialist series are required to be actively/significantly involved in publishable research activities as documented through publications or other methods. Specialists must be continuously and effectively engaged in research activity of scholarly quality and significance in the defined area of expertise and specialization. Areas of research: Specific Responsibilities: Laboratory responsibilities will also include setting up, calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment as necessary for experiments and assist lab personnel for flow cytometry and surface plasmon resonance studies. The Junior Specialist is expected to compile databases, maintain accurate records and perform analysis of collected data for progress reports, presentations and publications. PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE AND ACTIVITY (5% ) The Junior Specialist will work with Dr. Angela Haczku to review and analyze data for presentations, publications, and grant submitting purposes. They will also attend and present at weekly lab meetings and additional meetings as needed. Participation in journal paper reviews, Pulmonary Research in Progress meetings and local/national meetings to present research findings is also expected. UNIVERSITY AND PUBLIC SERVICE (5% ) The Junior Specialist will assist with organizing lab meetings and teleconferences, journal club meetings and other group meetings. They will also help with student and trainee orientations. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, Genetic, Biology, Biochemistry, Animal Biology, Biotechnology or a related field with previous laboratory course experience. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and use of basic scientific terminology. Working knowledge and familiarity with spreadsheets. Knowledge of HIPPA, ethical issues and writing of human subject protocol in conducting human research is also required. Knowledge of IACUC animal protocols is required in conducting mouse and non-human primate models and studies. Additional Qualifications: Knowledge and experience in conducting basic laboratory procedures are required. Knowledge in bioinformatics and statistical methods is desirable. Ability to serve as a research coordinator for projects conducted by the Pl, as resources permit. Responsible for ensuring uninterrupted communication between individual laboratories, data management, and preparation of reports tailored to meet the needs of the project. Communication, attention to detail and critical thinking. Salary: Step I - $44,500 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Number of Positions Available: 1 TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Short-term 2-year maximum Non-Exempt appointment, seasonal appointment based on the needs of the research project.
