Lecturer, Library and Information Science

Candidates must demonstrate effective teaching in an online environment and several years of professional (industry) experience in the area of expertise, a deep understanding of career opportunities in the information professions, and a passion for graduate student mentoring and success. Ideal candidates will also shape their teaching in ways that leverage the unique strengths of the School of Informatics and Computing and the IUPUI campus, including its interdisciplinary and collaborative environment and commitment to service and community engagement.

In 2000, the Indianapolis location of the Indiana University School of Library and Information Science was founded to provide high quality library education to students who could not be residential students, needing distance learning options. The Department is ALA accredited, offering students a diverse array of academic and career specializations. The LIS department is particularly strong in the application of technology to the information professions and in public libraries, children/youth services, and increasingly archives, particularly digital curation. Tenure track and lecturer faculty work together to provide engaged and engaging education with a commitment to the development of the library and information professions. Securing external funding for student support and faculty research is important to the Department and to the School.

The Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing is the first completely new school in the United States devoted exclusively to Informatics and a range of its sub-disciplines. In 2013 the Indiana University School of Library and Information Science merged with the School of Informatics. With its formative national role in creating the nation's largest Informatics Program on the Bloomington and Indianapolis campus, the School is the broadest and one of the largest information/computing schools in the U.S. At IUPUI, the School offers three Ph.D. programs (Human–Computer Interaction, Bioinformatics, and Health Informatics), five Master's programs (Bioinformatics, Health Informatics, Human–Computer Interaction, Informatics (with a Knowledge Management specialization) and Library Science), three Baccalaureate programs (Media Arts & Science, Informatics, and Health Information Administration), and several undergraduate and graduate certificate programs.
