The Challen Lab is seeking a senior scientist to collaborate with the Principal Investigator on the design, conduct and reporting of research projects relating to the genetic and epigenetic regulation of hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) function, and the clonal evolution of blood cancers. The overall goal of the lab is to understand how epigenetic modifications interface with genetic mutations to drive the progression of pre-malignant HSCs into fulminant blood diseases such as MPN, MDS and AML. We are interested in understanding how these processes corrupt normal HSC function and facilitate the clonal expansion of pre-malignant HSCs as a precursor to blood cancer. The translational potential of this work is to develop specific interventions to target these early clones as a mechanism of blood cancer prevention. The successful candidate will have experience in mouse models, flow cytometry, molecular techniques and basic computational analysis.

In collaboration with the PI, will design, execute, analyze and present data on scientific projects. Will be the intellectual leader of several independent studies.
Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
Prepares and submits papers on research.
Complies with established safety procedures and maintaining required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
Manages research project with other institutions and investigators.
Ph.D., M.D. or an equivalent terminal degree and at least three years of postdoctoral experience.
High-level analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated working knowledge of standard and advanced laboratory procedures and equipment relating to the research goals. This includes, but is not limited to, flow cytometry, western blotting, cell culture, and molecular biology.
Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel and technical publications.
Ability to work well independently and as a team member.
The hiring range for this position is $53,830 - $72,675 annually.
