Computational Biologist, Sr. I

The laboratory of Dr. Marcel van den Brink at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York is searching for an outstanding computational scientist with a strong interest in developing and applying bioinformatic/quantitative methods to problems in microbiota/metagenomics, cancer biology, immunology, and bone marrow transplantation.

You should have a background in human biology with a minimum of some computer science and statistics courses, and you should be excited to learn how to apply sophisticated algorithms to big biological data at one of the top cancer research institutes in the world. Your implementation of processing and visualization algorithms will allow data scientists, biologists and clinicians to interact with and interpret the data. A key focus is the single-cell profiling of patient samples, with the goal of improving immunotherapy and precision medicine. Join us if you are eager to learn and want to make an impact!

• Participate in the analysis ofand develop new computational approaches to better analyzea dataset of >10k microbiota samples from >1k patients.
• Upcoming projects will also provide opportunity to develop approaches to analyze fungal mycobiome, virome, metabolomic profiles, as well as rich metadata sets of environmental exposures, covariates and clinical outcomes.
• Assist with maintenance and updating of the lab database infrastructure.
• Will function as a member of the lab and present in group meetings.

• Master's or Ph.D. in bioinformatics, biological science, mathematics, physics, computer science, bioinformatics or equivelant expereince.
• Solid programming skills and familiarity with next-generation sequence data and analysis tools.
• Strong English communication skills.
• Expertise in programming, scripting, querying or statistical analysis languages such as python or R, as well as Linux OS for high performance computing.
