![]() Ocean Sciences: Postdoctoral Scholar (Open until filled. Apply by 3/4/21) The Ocean Sciences Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the a postdoctoral scholar, under the direction of Kendra Turk-Kubo and Jonathan Zehr in the Zehr Research group. The postdoctoral scholar will work collaboratively with another postdoctoral scholar on projects relating to understanding the biology and ecology of two groups of marine nitrogen fixing microorganisms that are not well-understood - non-cyanobacterial diazotrophs and the UCYN-A/haptophyte symbiosis. One aspect of the Postdoctoral Scholar's work will be to measure single cell nitrogen fixation rates for marine non-cyanobacterial diazotrophs and/or characterize environmental controls on non-cyanobacterial nitrogen fixation using stable isotope tracing, fluorescence in situ hybridization / immunolabelling, and nanoSIMS. The other aspect will be to advance our understanding of the biology and metabolic interactions between UCYN-A (unicellular nitrogen fixing cyanobacterium) and its single celled algal host using a suite of approaches including advanced imaging, immunolabelling, genomics/transcriptomics, and proteomics. This position is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and The Simons Foundation. Applicants with expertise in any of the following areas are encouraged to apply.
ACADEMIC TITLE Postdoctoral Scholar SALARY Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
