The Department of Biostatistics is a busy and diverse academic department focused on research and teaching. Our faculty are leaders in the development of statistical methods for clinical trials and observational studies, studies on the environment, computational biology, and genomics/genetics. We offer degree programs in biostatistics, computational biology, and data science. Currently, more than 180 PhD and Master's students are enrolled in these programs. This position will join a team of 19 other administrative and financial professionals. The position reports to the Senior Manager of Academic Services, who reports to the Director of Administration, who reports to the Department Chair. The Graduate Program Coordinator will work closely with, and primarily be trained by, the Senior Manager of Academic Services. The position will also work closely with the Director of Administration, and the Co-Directors of the department's PhD and Master's programs. The Department of Biostatistics is committed to building and supporting a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Academic Services, the Graduate Program Coordinator will support the Department of Biostatistics' degree-seeking students and the Department's academic team. The role encompasses internal and external communications, course/faculty management and admissions. The Graduate Program Coordinator will also be responsible for planning and executing academic/social events including the annual prospective student open house, fall meet & greet, and commencement-related activities. In addition to the above, they also oversee communications to faculty & students outlining academic requirements, changes, and updates, and assist with the coordination of thesis/dissertation defense, qualifying exams. They may also be asked to serve as a staff representative on departmental academic committees. The Department of Biostatistics has approximately 73 primary, secondary, and adjunct faculty members, as well as 50-60 courses that are held each year. The Graduate Program Coordinator will support the Senior Manager of Academic Services in ensuring that all courses and programs are running smoothly. This requires a keen attention to detail, as well as comprehensive and professional communications with faculty members, teaching assistants, other students, and departmental staff, including the PhD Student Funding Manager. The Graduate Program Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the Senior Manager of Academic Services, the Director of Graduate Studies, and Assistant Director of Graduate Studies, and Co-Directors of the department's three SM programs in all aspects of the admissions cycle. This will include planning prospective student visits, coordinating with admissions officials on admitted student visit days, working with faculty on program reviews, handling sensitive information, and demonstrating a thorough understanding of the degrees offered, and their specific eligibility requirements. The Coordinator will also support the department on all orientation and enrollment processes, and other duties as assigned.
