TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN NEUROPHARMACOLOGY/TOXICOLOGY, DRUG DESIGN, SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS OR NEURODEGENERATION
The Department of Pharmacology in the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position available immediately to conduct research in pathophysiology, pharmacology, toxicology, and drug-discovery on the different elements of the neurovascular unit (central neurons, glia, and brain vessels), with a special interest in discovering genetic bases, molecular targets, mechanisms at the mini-circuitry level, and pharmacotherapeutic approaches in neurodegenerative or neurovascular diseases, and substance use disorders, including alcohol research. Preference will be given to candidates using state-of-the-art methodologies, including microfluidics/organ on a chip, large-scale neuronal ensemble electrophysiological recordings, chemo/optogenetics, computational neuroscience/pharmacology, and high-resolution imaging, such as AFM, cryoEM, STORM, CARS and 2-Photon or Multi-Photon microscopy.
Candidates will be considered at all ranks based upon qualifications and experience. All applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, relevant postdoctoral experience, and a strong record of research productivity and accomplishments. Applicants at the Associate or Full Professor level must have current and robust extramural support.
With a strong core of Faculty devoted to Neurodegeneration, Neuropharmacology/toxicology, and substance use disorders research, the Department of Pharmacology at UTHSC has continuously increased its level of extramural funding. The Department is currently located in the UTHSC's new, state-of-the-art Translational Research Science Building ( http://www.uthsc.edu/pharmacology/ ), which also houses researchers from the Departments of Physiology, Pediatrics, and Genetics, Genomics and Informatics. Most of our Faculty are members of the inter-departmental Neuroscience Institute providing vast opportunities for academic collaborations. Additional research collaborative opportunities in the area exist at the University of Memphis and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
The UTHSC College of Medicine offers a generous start-up package, and the Institution includes several core facilities, including the Lab Animal Care Unit (LACU), the Regional Biocontainment Laboratory (RBL), the Molecular Resource Center (MRC), the Flow Cytometry, and Flow Sorting core (FCCS), the Molecular Bioinformatics Core (MBC), the Proteomics and Metabolomics Core (PMC) and the Research Histology Core (RHC). Furthermore, the Department of Pharmacology houses common facilities in laser confocal microscopy, laser capture microscopy, light-sheet microscopy, and high-throughput robotic electrophysiology. In addition, a strong Neuroscience community comprises the Neuroscience Institute, which offers a Mouse Behavior Core and an Imaging Center where electron microscopy is available.
Applicants should submit their Curriculum Vitae, three letters of reference, and a summary of research interests and plans.
