Postdoctoral Associate
Rutgers University
Position Summary: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey invites applications for a postdoctoral research position associated with the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine. A Postdoctoral Associate position is immediately available in the lab of Dr. Eddy Arnold. The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research studying the structure and function of human viral proteins and polyproteins, including from HIV-1 and SARS-CoV-2, along with other duties as assigned. Studies include X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy techniques, which will contribute to structure-guided drug design targeting these human infectious diseases. These studies will also lead to insights into mechanisms of viral maturation and morphogenesis, as well as polymerization, inhibition, and resistance. This is a grant-funded appointment contingent upon the availability of funds to support it. Minimum Education and Experience: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a related discipline with at least one year of postdoctoral research experience. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Applicants must have expert knowledge of biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology and cell biology techniques, including recombinant DNA technologies and protein expression and purification techniques. Advanced structural biology knowledge and skills including: 1) crystallization set-up using robotics, 2) experience using synchrotron beam lines for crystal diffraction, or 3) sample preparation and data processing experience in cryo-electron microscopy, are preferred (at least one of them is required). Expert knowledge of bioinformatic tools for drug design is strongly desired. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Laboratory environment. Universal precautions are mandatory.
