Seeking a highly motivated scientist to study the molecular basis of genetic syndromes in Dr. Taosheng Huang's laboratory, Department of Pediatrics. This group studies a variety of genetic diseases, with the ultimate goals of developing treatments for said conditions while also translating the discoveries from rare diseases to more common conditions. Special emphasis is placed on mitochondrial diseases (see his Dr. Taosheng's faculty page for more details), which play a critical and often underappreciated role in a wide variety of disorders. Methodologies used include next generation sequencing to identify disease-causing mutations, and iPSC and mouse models to characterize the impact of these mutations using CRISPR/Cas9-based methods. As the new Division Chief in Human Genetics, Dr. Huang is actively committed to the training of junior faculty, as well as clinical and research fellows. Many of his previous trainees have become independent investigators and/or serve as lab directors in molecular diagnostic labs and cytogenetic labs.

Strong background in genetics;
Molecular/cellular biology, including a PhD degree in Genetics;
Molecular/Cellular Biology, or a related field;
Excellent scientific writing, communication and technical skills, are strongly desired;
Previous experience in neuroscience and genetics & animal handling is preferred.

PhD in Genetics, Molecular/Cellular Biology, or related field. Proficiency in English required, including oral and written communication skills. PhD in Genetics, Genomics, or Bioinformatics preferred. Experience in mitochondrial-related research or bioinformatics are a plus. A strong previous publication record is preferred.
