The Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Research Scientist/Engineer 3.
A position is available in a cellular immunology lab for an experienced scientist to contribute to several funded projects. Located at UW SLU, projects include research on SARS-CoV-2, HSV-1 and HSV-2, HHV-8, varicella zoster virus, syphilis, and cancer caused by MCPyV, a polyomavirus. Several smaller and larger, short and long term projects allow an additional position to be created, adding to a staff of three doctoral-level UW Research Scientists, one post-doc, and several technologists.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Human T cell culture, T cell functional assays such as ELISPOT, flow cytometry including intracellular cytokine cytometry, ELISA, proliferation, and cytotoxicity,
Virus culture and virus titration by plaque assay,
Dendritic cell and EBV-immortalized B cell culture,
Analytical flow cytometry and live cell sorting including data acquisition and analysis software,
PBMC isolation from blood, routine eukaryotic cell line freeze/thaw/passage
Immunomagnetic cell enrichment, and live cell (eGFP etc.) fluorescence microscopy
DNA quantitation by spectrophotometer,
Cell DNA transfection with lipid reagents,
Basic E. coli culture, basic PCR and cloning, plasmid preps, send-out Sanger sequencing.

Master's Degree in a science related field and one years' applicable experience to include:
Ability to multitask
Work with internal and external collaborating teams
Prepare concise written reports and graphical output
Maintain Deliverable timelines important.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Master's degree and three years experience to include:
Facility in basic mouse immunology procedures and T cell assays,
Mouse implantable tumor model experience,
Luciferase based in vitro and in vivo imaging,
Human T cell cloning,
Tissue digestion for leukocyte recovery,
Eukaryotic cell electroporation,
BSL-3 virology experience,
Lentivirus use (expression construct cloning, manufacture via transfection/concentration/titration),
Uploading data to Genbank and similar respositories,
NGS library preparation and data pipelines, and bioinformatics experience with highly dimensional RNAseq, TCRseq, and flow cytometry data.
