Post-Doctoral Research Fellow
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
Cures Start Here. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home to three Nobel laureates, interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists seek new and innovative ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. Fred Hutchs pioneering work in bone marrow transplantation led to the development of immunotherapy, which harnesses the power of the immune system to treat cancer. An independent, nonprofit research institute based in Seattle, Fred Hutch houses the nations first cancer prevention research program, as well as the clinical coordinating center of the Womens Health Initiative and the international headquarters of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network. Careers Start Here. The post-doctoral research fellow will work on projects in the Bleakley Lab primarily on laboratory studies including, but not limited to, cancer antigen discovery, molecular cloning and evaluation of T cell receptors (TCRs) and transgene constructs in vitro and in vivo patient derived-xenograft models, and tracking T cell responses to cancer antigens in patient tissue samples. The successful applicant will employ strategies such as functional T cell assays, cell culture, multi-parametric flow cytometry, flow sorting, DNA extraction for TCR sequencing, analysis of TCR sequencing data, isolation of cancer-specific T cells from human peripheral blood, experimentation in patient-derived xenografts, quantitative PCR and bioinformatics analysis. This is a full-time position with a salary based on the NIH scale and excellent benefits. Applicants will have a PhD in a biological science and/or a MD. The ideal candidate will have a research background in immunology with robust skills in molecular and cellular biology, including flow cytometry, T cell functional assays, DNA and RNA extraction, molecular cloning, PCR and quantitative PCR. Desirable skills include bioinformatics analysis, scientific writing and presentations. To be successful in this position, the post-doctoral research fellow must be highly motivated with a track record of productive research, exemplified by first author publication(s) and presentations, and willing to work in a highly collaborative, fast paced, collaborative and dynamic environment.
