Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Coordinator shall contribute significantly to the development and implementation of a clinical trial in the area of confocal microscopy for subjects with cystinosis. The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of the confocal microscopy protocol including IRB correspondence, taking images with the confocal microscope, image analysis using imaging software, sample processing, consenting subjects, subject follow-up and all documentation of protocol. In addition, incumbent will assist lab personnel during times of increased workload. Tasks include but are not limited to PCR, DNA/RNA extractions, ELISA, DNA cloning and Western Blot.
Theoretical knowledge of basic Human Genetics and Molecular Biology.
Thorough knowledge of or experience with micropipetting and dilutions.
Proficient computer skills not limited to Microsoft Office, Google Calendar, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat. Proven typing/word processing skills to prepare correspondence, reports, and spreadsheets.
Strong interpersonal skills to work well with a diverse group of people.
Experience with entry level biological techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis, sequence analysis, RT-PCR, DNA/RNA isolation.
Demonstrated experience as a clinical coordinator or patient interaction.
Knowledge of confocal microscopy and accompanying image software.
Experience with submissions/communication with the UCSD IRB.
Experience working with small laboratory rodents
