Assistant Professor
Oregon Health and Science University
Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is located in Portland, Oregon a city whose breathtaking scenery, exciting location, mild weather, and friendly people have all contributed to its appearance on numerous "Best Of" lists, including Online Insider's "Top 10 Least Expensive Cities," Money Magazine's "Top 10 Places to Vacation" and "Top 10 Best Places to Live," and American Style Magazine's "Top 25 Arts Destinations." OHSU is ranked as one of the nations top biomedical institutions in patient care, research, and education, with an annual operating budget of over $2.3 billion, over $340 million in annual grant funding, over 4,000 students and trainees, and nearly 1 million patient visits per year. Multiple departments rank among the top 5 in annual grant. OHSU is one of the nations fastest growing biomedical institutions, bolstered by long-term resource commitments, such as the $1 billion Phil and Penny Knight challenge to support research in OHSUs Knight Cancer Institute. The Knights pledged to donate $500 million to the Knight Cancer Institute if OHSU could raise an additional $500 million. In June 2015, the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute met the fundraising challenge, raising $1 billion for cancer research. Funds from the challenge are focused on revolutionizing early cancer detection and treatment and have already supported numerous faculty recruitments, supported the construction and development of the new Knight Cancer Research Building, and new cancer clinical facilities on Portland's South Waterfront. OHSU provides substantial resources to enable leading computational research, including a world-class exascale super-computing cluster, close interactions with leading technology companies such as Intel, tight integration with clinical and basic research programs across campus, graduate training programs in computational biomedicine, bioinformatics, biostatistics, biomedical informatics, and biomedical engineering, and substantial long-term resource commitments, including a major computational focus within the investment plan for the $1 billion Knight Cancer challenge. Research interests in the department of Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology (CDCB) embrace complex interactions between cells and their environments, focusing on molecular and cell-based mechanisms regulating tissue homeostasis, acute and chronic tissue damage, and how these interactions are altered in diseases such as cancer. The Division of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology applies data science and analytics to problems and challenges in biomedicine with research interests that include precision medicine, systems biology/genetics, network inference, drug repurposing, natural language processing, image analysis and reproducible research. The Department of Biomedical Engineering research and teaching are focused on solving unmet clinical needs in the areas of cardiovascular and infectious diseases, rehabilitation medicine, and cancer with research ranging from basic science bioengineering, to theoretical modeling of systems, to clinical and translational science. We offer highly competitive recruitment packages, strong institutional commitments to faculty support, comprehensive benefits, relocation services, and a rewarding work and life environment. OHSU is seeking exceptional Assistant Professor tenure-track faculty candidates with focus on computational approaches to uncover key mechanisms regulating cancer-associated adaptive and innate immune cells in the tumor microenvironment and identify new immuno-oncology therapies. This includes T cell and B cell repertoire analysis, single cell and deconvolution analysis of myeloid complexity and functional status, and computational modeling of tumor/stromal interactions. The successful candidate will hold dual appointments with the department of Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology (CDCB) and either the Division of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology in the Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology or the Department of Biomedical Engineering based on candidates interests and research. The successful candidate will also be a member of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute Computational Biology program.
